The Musée d'Orsay's latest exhibition focuses on European sculpture, post-Rodin. Leaving Rodin Behind (Oublier Rodin?) examines the influence of the great master on those artists who followed him - and their attempts to break free from his established artistic traditions.
Both classical artists (Maillol, Bernard, Lehmbruck) and avant-garde sculptors (Duchamp-Villon, Archipenko, Brancusi) experimented with 'anti-Rodin' forms. The display divides works by theme - including torsos or kneeling figures - and records a turning point in European sculpture at the beginning of the 20th century.
